PB Devotion
Only 5% of Americans have received a personal invitation to church. 80% of Americans would be open to attending church if invited by a friend. Invite someone to Back to Church Sunday, In-Person or Online, September 21st.
Get back to church! Help someone let go of any reason that has kept them out of church.
Respect for authority isn’t demanded by getting puffed up or loud, or by using God’s Word as a sledgehammer. A person who has to spend a lot of time reminding people of his or her authority and use much energy demanding that people yield to that authority does so because they have no real authority. True authority is noticed. Matthew chapter 7 speaks of when the Lord had finished teaching, the crowd was amazed at what he had said. Why? “He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes” those who had the title and who demanded respect for their position but had no authority. The true church is not demanding respect. The true church has true authority, and we use it for the reasons God gave it. We command our respect with our faith, integrity and consistency.
Don’t be overly concerned about who has true faith, true integrity and true consistency. Do you possess these things? People in the church can be very disrespectful; don’t be that person. Be the example of the church the brings people to Christ by how you live and what you say. This will show true authority and authenticity.
“If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed. Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.”
1 Timothy 4:6-10 NLT
