Daily Devotion

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.
Lamentations 3:40

One of the greatest challenges in the Christian life is slowing down long enough to honestly evaluate ourselves. We often spend time examining the actions of others while neglecting to examine our own hearts. Yet spiritual growth requires intentional reflection.

Taking a few quiet minutes each day to review our character, choices, and behavior allows us to see ourselves through God's perspective. It is not an exercise in shame or self-condemnation. Rather, it is an opportunity for spiritual awareness and transformation. When we invite the Holy Spirit to search our hearts, He reveals areas where we have grown, areas where we have drifted, and areas where He desires to continue His work in us.

As you reflect on the past year, consider your attitudes, words, and actions. Have your responses reflected the character of Christ? Have you demonstrated love, patience, kindness, and humility in your relationships? Have your priorities aligned with God's purposes? Are there moments that require repentance, forgiveness, or a renewed commitment to obedience?

Honest self-examination is a gift because it keeps our hearts tender before God. It prevents us from becoming comfortable with spiritual complacency and helps us recognize our continual need for His grace. The goal is not perfection but transformation. God is not looking for flawless people; He is looking for willing hearts that are open to His correction and guidance.

Every moment of reflection is an opportunity to draw closer to Him. As we acknowledge our shortcomings and celebrate His faithfulness, we position ourselves to grow into the people He has called us to be. The more we allow God to shape our character, the more our lives become a reflection of Christ to the world around us.

Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets) is a great time to ask the Lord to reveal what He wants you to see. His conviction leads to freedom, His correction leads to growth, and His grace leads to restoration.

Good Morning Lord,

Search my heart and reveal anything that does not honor You. Help me to honestly examine my character, choices, and actions. Thank You for Your grace that forgives and Your Spirit that transforms. Give me the humility to repent where needed and the courage to follow Your leading. Shape me into the image of Christ and help my life reflect Your love and truth each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
