The High Holy Days invite us into more than observance; they invite us into examination. Yom Teruah, the Feast of Trumpets, arrives with the piercing sound of the shofar. In those quiet moments, ask the Holy Spirit to examine your heart. Are there wounds that need healing? Offenses that need forgiveness? Habits that need surrendering? Relationships that need restoration? Often, we move so quickly through life that we fail to notice the areas where God desires to bring renewal. Yet the Lord, in His mercy, calls us to pause and listen.
The season of Yom Teruah is a season of awakening. The blast of the shofar is a call to attention. It’s a divine summons to prepare ourselves before the Lord. It is difficult to respond to that call when our hearts are distracted and our minds are overwhelmed.
