Daily Devotion
Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 23:42-43
The worship cycle is built on memory.
God did not tell Israel to remember with just their minds. He told them to remember with their bodies, their families, and their homes. As we get ready to enter the Feast of Tabernacle, we are reminded, for seven days they were to leave their solid houses and live in temporary booths made of branches and leaves. Why? So that their children would ask, "Why are we living like this?" And the parents could answer: "Because God met us in the wilderness."
When did God meet you in the wilderness?
Life is temporary, but God is faithful. The wilderness was not comfortable. Yet for 40 years, no one went without. Manna fell every morning. Water came from the rock. Their clothes did not wear out. Their "tent" life was not proof of God's absence. It was actually the stage for His faithful presence.
See, remembering is a command, not a suggestion. God says, "That your generations may know..." Forgetting leads to fear and complaining. Remembering leads to trust and gratitude. We are quick to forget. When life feels unstable we assume God has left us. The feast of Tabernacles corrects us. Temporariness is not abandonment and uncertainty is often where provision becomes most personal.
Think about your own life:
* Where did God provide when you saw no way?
* Where did He protect you when you didn't even know you were in danger?
* Where did He guide you one step at a time?
That was your wilderness manna. Don't forget it.
Your present "booth" that fragile, in-between place may be the very place future faith will be built on. God is still the Lord who provides in the wilderness.
Good Morning Lord,
Teach me to remember Your hand in my life, even when I feel temporary. Forgive me for confusing uncertainty with absence. Open my eyes to see that You were with me in the wilderness before, and You are with me now. Help me to tell the story of Your provision, so that others will know You are faithful. I trust You, my Shelter and Provider, in Jesus name, Amen.
