Daily Devotion
The Declaration of Independence was written by thirteen different colonies, but within the document, they are called “we.” “Wehold these truths to be self-evident …” Jesus set you and me free as individuals, but we live out this freedom as His Church. One body with many parts.
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.”
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NLT
You may be at war right now. Any good solider is always ready to fight. You may be fighting for your marriage, fighting financially, fighting to train godly kids, or just fighting to maintain a godly bloodline. Your fight is never alone. We share the same spirit. There are many fighting with you; giving everything they have, just like you. One of the worst things you could ever think is you’re the only one. When Elijah believed he was the last faithful person left, God told him He had reserved a remnant of 7,000 who had not bowed to the false god Baal (1 Kings 19). You are not fighting alone.
“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT
You may know it this way:
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV
The word "carnal" means of the flesh, human, or worldly. It means you cannot fight spiritual battles using human strength. The battle is fought and won using spiritual tools.
Prayer and Supplication: Directly communicating with God.
The Word of God: Often called the "sword of the Spirit," which we use to combat doubt or deception. It is our training manual.
The Armor of God: which includes the belt of truth, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation.
July 4, 1776 came only about a year after the revolutionary war began and about six years before it would finally end. Yet, it’s the single most revered day of American history. In the mist of the war, the fight, it may be time to make a mid-war declaration of your freedom in Christ.
A "mid-war declaration" is not denying that you're in a battle because you are in a battle and you know it. It's choosing to agree with what God says while the battle is still happening. We don’t wait until we see victory to declare freedom. Faith declares God's truth before the circumstances change.
- God is with me in this battle.
- This struggle does not define me.
- Christ has already won the victory.
- My current circumstances are not my final destination.
- Nothing God has allowed in my life will be wasted.
- God still has purpose for my life.
- God is working all things together for good.
- My future is still in His hands.
The Declaration of Independence was made in the middle of the struggle, not after victory had already been secured. The colonies declared their freedom before the war was won.
“Wehold these truths to be self-evident …” Declare these truths to be evident!!
The battle is the Lord's.
Happy 4th of July!!!
