PB Devotional

The apostle Paul describes the kind of leaders God has provided for His church; the universal church. These leaders help the church grow up. God wants maturity and Christ-likeness for His children. In 1 Corinthians 12:28, he says, in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. Only three of the five in Ephesians are repeated here again, while Paul adds other kind of people and functions. The Holy Spirit gives these gifts to each of us and they manifest to the glory of God through the Baptism by fire. These gifts do not exalt you nor do they make you important; that was Satans problem. God will not share His glory or honor with you but He did share His power and His authority. We all have a job to do and God is expecting us to do it to the glory of God.

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head; Christ.
