PB Devotional
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.
Romans 8:14-17
The Greek word used in this passage for “adoption to sonship” refers to the full legal standing of an adopted heir in Roman society. Through adoption, you gain an inheritance but what do you inherit? Romans 8 says that you are God’s heir and a co-heir with Christ, meaning you share in Christ’s inheritance.
“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.”
Hebrews 1:1-4 NLT
Jesus inherited: spiritual blessings, dominion over all things, and the promise of future glory.
Jesus inherited everything, which aligned with Jewish inheritance laws where the firstborn received the family's estate.
Jesus also inherited a name above all names. The power and authority behind the one walking in that name, the integrity of that person, the possessions of that person… basically everything that person stands for or represents is wrapped up in the name.
The only limitation on “all things” is our own sense of what we deserve. Your adoption into the family of God qualifies you to share in the same victory and joy as Jesus. You inherited salvation when you chose to believe on the name of Jesus. Enjoy your inheritance now!!
