PB Devotion
Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
Joel 2:12-13
“Do not love the world or the things in the world…”
1 John 2:15
Jesus came to save the world; but his followers are instructed not “love the world.” Certainly, God loves the world he created. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son…” But the “love” that we are warned about is against any system in competition with God, any kingdom other than God’s kingdom. We can only be citizens of one kingdom. 1 John warns against the false love for wealth or honor; the things that the world would tell us that we should love. According to the world we should love idols and worship them. Our idols are the false promises of the world around us. When we put wealth, power, our reputation or our comfort ahead of Jesus in our lives we are entering dangerous territory. During the 40 Days of Purpose, reflect on what you love. What motivates you? What has been the foundation of your life decisions such as career, relationships, or how you spend your time and/or money.
Do you have an unhealthy love for the world?

“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
