PB Devotion
Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
Joel 2:12-13
Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having everything, to stand firm.
Ephesians 6:13
The command to “stand firm” seems so simple, but it is in fact one of the most difficult things to do. In a world that stand diametrically opposed to the values of Gods kingdom, it is the easiest thing in the world to begin to shift our position, to give a little ground, to make accommodations. The Roman solider had to stand firm in battle. It was hand to hand combat. There was no room to give up ground or footing. They had to stand firm. Retreat meant failure. To maintain ground soldiers stood close together, maintaining ground was possible as a unit. Legions were known by their strength when fighting this way. They were basically invincible.
We often read scripture as if it is written to us as individuals. But Paul is writing here to the church, to a community. Where do you feel weak, unable to stand firm? The church is a body of Believers with many different strengths and weaknesses. Find unity in the body of Christ. Stand with others from the church. Accountability creates discipleship and discipleship encourages maturity in the Word.

“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
