PB Devotional

”But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”“
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭15‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Many Scriptures remind us that physical sacrifices are only valuable if they’re given with your whole heart. The prophet Samuel told King Saul, “To obey is better than sacrifice”. And David wrote, “You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it.…The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit…a broken and humbled heart”.

The Old Testament prophets consistently spoke out against sacrifices that were futile attempts to cover sinful actions. Jesus also criticized the religious leaders for offering sacrifices that meant nothing (Matthew 23:23-25).

The same could be said of any spiritual practice we undertake for the wrong reason. As you continue your journey through the 40 Days of Purpose do it with your whole heart. Enjoy the journey.

”You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.“
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
