PB Devotion

Jesus spoke of the harvest with His disciples as He sent them ahead to Jerusalem to prepare the way for His arrival. They moved from town to town, receiving no welcome. The hardship of following Jesus started to become a reality. He even labeled them “lambs among wolves”
Read Luke 10:3 NIV

As they traveled, Jesus issued this plea for help:

The  harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
Luke 10:2 NIV

What would cause these men to walk toward conflict in order to minister in the name of Jesus Christ? When I read the commissioning of Jesus disciples in Luke 10, I can’t help but think about myself at times and the condition of the universal church. I know my own reality. I am a disciple of Christ, but am I in the harvest field or am playing in the dirt. We must evaluate ourselves.

I surround myself with like-minded people who agree that Jesus is the Son of God and call Him “Lord.” I discuss the truths of Scripture at home, in church and through the DFAM. I lift my hands in worship as the music grows loud in the sanctuary and sometimes I’m leading worship. All of these things are good and worthwhile. Yet even with all these good things in my life, Jesus stands on the edge of the field and calls to me: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

Please believe and know that He’s calling you. He’s saying to you, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

If I consider myself a disciple of Christ, I must enter the field as a harvest worker. He does not want a reluctant or hesitant worker (Luke 9:57-62). He wants a worker who is passionate about the harvest.

Have a heart for the harvest.
