Our summer read during sabbatical was the book of John.

“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:31

The Gospel of John is unlike the other Gospels. While Matthew emphasizes Jesus as King, Mark as Servant, and Luke as the Son of Man, John presents Jesus as the Son of God. From the opening verses, John pulls back the curtain of eternity and reveals who Jesus truly is:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God.” John 1:1

John's purpose is clear: he wants us to know Jesus and believe in Him. Throughout the book, Jesus makes powerful declarations about His identity:

* "I am the Bread of Life."
* "I am the Light of the World."
* "I am the Door."
* "I am the Good Shepherd."
* "I am the Resurrection and the Life."
* "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
* "I am the True Vine."

These statements reveal that Jesus is not merely a teacher, prophet, or religious leader. He is everything we need. He satisfies spiritual hunger, guides us through darkness, protects us, gives us eternal life, and connects

us to the Father.

One of the most beautiful themes in John is relationship. Jesus continually invites people to come close. He turns water into wine at a wedding, meets a searching Pharisee in the night, speaks with a Samaritan woman at a well, raises a grieving family's brother from the dead, washes His disciples' feet, and comforts them before the cross. John shows us a Savior who is both fully God and deeply personal.

The Gospel of John ends at the cross and the empty tomb. What appeared to be defeat became the greatest victory in history. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus made a way for us to have eternal life and a restored relationship with God.

Good Morning Lord,

Thank You for revealing yourself through the Gospel of John. Open my eyes to see you more clearly and my heart to trust you more fully. Help me not only to believe in you but to abide in you every day. I allow your words shape my thoughts, your love to transform my heart, and your presence to guide my steps. Strengthen my faith and draw me deeper into a relationship with You. In Jesus name, Amen.
