It’s Yom Kippur!
Joshua's words remind us that preparation often precedes God's movement. Before Israel crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land, they were called to consecrate themselves. The miracle was coming, but first there was a call to holiness, reflection, and readiness.
Consecration means more than avoiding wrong actions; it means intentionally setting ourselves apart for God's purposes. It is the act of surrendering our plans, desires, attitudes, and distractions so that our hearts are fully available to Him. During this sacred season, we are invited to examine what occupies our time, attention, and affection. Are there things competing for God's place in our lives? Are there habits, offenses, fears, or distractions that need to be laid before Him?
Yom Kippur is a time of honest reflection and repentance. It is an opportunity to invite the Holy Spirit to search every corner of our hearts. Sometimes we ask God to do something new while holding tightly to old patterns. Yet God often prepares us for His promises by first preparing our hearts.
Joshua's instruction carried a promise: "Tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." Consecration was not about earning God's favor; it was about positioning the people to recognize and participate in what God was about to do.
The same is true for us. As we humble ourselves before the Lord, make room for His presence, and align our hearts with His will, we become more sensitive to His voice and more prepared for His work in our lives.
Today, take time to pause before the Lord. Ask Him to reveal anything that needs to be surrendered. Make room for Him to work in fresh ways. The God who led Israel through the Jordan is still leading His people today.
Good Morning Lord,
Lord, I set myself apart for You. Search my heart and reveal anything that hinders my walk with You. Purify my thoughts, renew my spirit, and align my desires with Your will. As I humble myself before You during this season of Yom Kippur, prepare me for all that You desire to do in my life. May I be sensitive to Your voice, obedient to Your leading, and ready for Your purposes. In the name of Yeshua, Amen.
