Daily Devotion
The Feast of Tabernacles, or Sukkot, is one of the most joyful celebrations in Scripture. God instructed His people to leave the comfort of their homes and dwell in temporary shelters, called sukkot, for seven days. These fragile structures were a living reminder that Israel's security had never come from strong walls, permanent houses, or earthly possessions and it all came from God's faithful presence.
Living in a tent changes your perspective. A tent reminds you that you are not meant to settle too deeply into temporary things. The walls are thin. The structure is simple. You become aware of your dependence on God for protection, provision, and peace. In much the same way, our lives are temporary dwellings. We often spend tremendous energy trying to secure every outcome, control every circumstance, and protect every comfort. We build plans, schedules, savings accounts, careers, and even relationships as though they can guarantee our future. Yet God continually reminds us that our hope is not found in what we can hold onto but in the One who holds us.
Sukkot teaches us to live with open hands. Open hands release fear. Open hands surrender control. Open hands acknowledge that everything we have is a gift from God and belongs to Him. When we stop gripping tightly to temporary things, we become free to enjoy God's blessings without making them our source of security.
The temporary shelter points us toward an eternal truth: God Himself is our dwelling place. Through Messiah Yeshua, we are invited to rest under the covering of His presence. The Lord who guided Israel through the wilderness is the same Lord who guides us today. He is faithful in seasons of abundance and faithful in seasons of uncertainty.
Good Morning Lord,
Thank You for being my shelter and my dwelling place. Forgive me for the times I place my trust in temporary things instead of in You. Teach me to live with open hands and a surrendered heart. Help me release my need to control what belongs in Your hands. Strengthen my faith to trust You deeply, whether the path ahead feels certain or uncertain. Thank You for Your faithful presence that never leaves me. In the name of Yeshua, Amen.
