Prophets reveal God's heart to His people, giving guidance to individuals and the body, giving revelation, as well as interpretation, application and timing. We see several examples in the book of Acts. God has established prophets in His church to speak His heart. The point of all prophecy (past, present, and future) serves to reveal the heart of Jesus Christ in our experience.
“And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.” Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.””
Revelation 19:9-10 NLT
This is prophecy!!
Matthew 10:41-42 says:
“If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”
A “prophet” is not always someone who foretells the future. Rather, a preacher of the the good news. The prophet is to be received because of faithfulness to minister the gospel and teach truth. Those who receive the prophet are entitled to the same prophet’s reward as the prophet himself. Only those who teach according to the Bible can be called true prophets of God, and those who assist and follow them with their gifts will receive the same prophet’s reward.
Is this your gift to the body of Christ? If so, prophecy the mysteries of heaven to the glory of God. Edify the body of Christ and serve the least among you.

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head; Christ.”
