PB Devotion
“The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.”
1 Corinthians 12:25-26 MSG
We put a lot of focus on the gifts we can see operating in the body of Christ. Pastors, preachers, teachers, evangelists, apostles, prophets, healers and interpreters are applauded the most. They stand in a position to be a mouth piece for God. Double honor and double judgement awaits each one. The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church. We put a lot of attention on the seen parts but struggle to consistently pay much attention to the unseen parts until something catastrophic happens. As we go through the Ordinary days of the church consider the unseen parts. You can’t see your digestive system but you need it everyday. Some of us treat our digestive system horrible and we reap the consequences at times. What parts of the body of Christ do we take for granted? It’s easy to acknowledge the seen thing. Let us not wait until the unseen thing is hurt to acknowledge it is important to the body. Look at your church and look at your home.
The Ordinary Days!!!
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages. Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!”
