PB Devotion
Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
Joel 2:12-13
“Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions’ envy, drunkenness, carousing and things like this.”
Galatians 5:19-21
Saint Patrick’s Day was yesterday. It’s suppose to be a Christian holiday that commemorates Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Ironically, in modern day America, Saint Patrick’s Day is known as a day for excessive alcohol consumption and wild parties.
Paul is the one who said that the works of the flesh were obvious. The works of the flesh and the works of the Spirit are in obvious contrast. And yet, we can often find ourselves ignoring the fruit in our lives. We claim to be followers of Jesus, but anyone looking at us can see from the fruit in our lives that we are living by the flesh, not by the Spirit. During the 40 Days of Purpose consider the works of your flesh. Does anything stand out to you?
Something should seem odd about making a Christian holiday with religious roots a sign and/or symbol of lawlessness; an excuse for drunkenness.
What things in your life do you allow to bring glory to the flesh instead of our Lord and Savior?

“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
