I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.
Philippians 4:2

I find this scripture text very interesting. I suppose Euodia and Syntyche were pretty embarrassed at this point, hearing their names read in connection with a conflict. Paul wrote letters and this statement is in the letter. Can you imagine someone standing in front of the church reading what pastor has to say to his church and your name comes up in some mess? For some reason they had a falling out, and everyone knew about it; even Paul who wasn’t there physically. They were not talking about anything most likely but others were talking about everything.

We have these same issues in our churches present day. Many times we probably find ourselves saying things like, “I’m not stepping into the middle of that one!” or, “I wouldn’t touch that one with a ten-foot pole!” But Paul stepped in.

We cannot be united in Christ and yet be at odds with one another. Strained relationships may not be easy to repair, but we are called to try. As Paul puts it, it’s not just about having the same mind but having the same mind “in the Lord.” The Lord himself is involved with our disagreements, He’s in the middle. So do your best to repair the mess in Jesus name.
