Remembrance
The second theme of this High Holy Season is Remembrance.
God commanded Abraham to offer his beloved son Isaac as a sacrifice. At the last moment, God informed Abraham that it was merely a test, and instead of sacrificing Isaac, he would offer a nearby ram. By sounding the shofar, a ram’s horn, we are reminded of the dedication displayed by both Abraham and Isaac. We are also reminded of the parallels between Isaac and Jesus. Jesus is throughout the Old Testament.
We are reminded of this:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”
John 3:16
